Your course overview in the distance learning programme “Public Relations & Kommunikation”
You will acquire all essential communication science knowledge and practical and application-oriented skills for a successful career in the extensive media and communication sector. There is a special focus on the current and future demands of the job market in the digital age. Your studies prepare you for tasks such as designing and implementing communication strategies and measures, collecting and processing data/information, communicating with stakeholders, content creation, and much more. You will also gain specific skills such as press strategy and PR controlling or digital editorial management. In specialisation tracks, you have the opportunity to focus on your desired occupational field.
Electives: In Electives A, B and C, you choose two elective modules each. Elective D: Decide at the beginning of your studies between an internship at a company or all modules from Elective D. You complete the internship with a written reflection. If you choose the modules from Elective D, all modules from this elective must be completed. Mixed forms between the internship and Elective D are not possible.

Boost your career: Do an (optional) internship!
Do you want a flexible study programme that's also practical? You're in the right place: at USP, you have the possibility to deepen your knowledge in an integrated internship in the field of your programme (30 ECTS credits). Alternatively, you can expand your expertise in practice-oriented modules (30 ECTS credits). Simply decide in the first semester, which type of practical knowledge suits you and your goals. If you already have work experience or gain it during your studies, you can have this credited or recognised under certain conditions – saving you time and money.

Specialisations

Your professional future in the field of Public Relations & Communication
As a PR professional, exciting career prospects with lucrative opportunities for advancement await you.

To ensure good and solid reporting, your task is to select and research interesting topics and content. You conduct interviews and prepare information in a way that captivates and enthuses readers. You create journalistic contributions for print, online, TV, and/or radio.
You constantly interact with external and internal stakeholders. Your task is to communicate important news and information from the company to the media and the public. You represent your company and its viewpoints publicly, participate in key events, and organise events yourself.
A newspaper urgently needs a print-ready photo, a magazine needs a text, a radio station a statement – and preferably all at once. As a press officer, you master prioritising, remain calm even in stressful times, and respond to every situation with friendliness and a service-oriented approach. As a press officer, no day is the same: you keep a close eye on the current news situation and derive PR measures from it that shine a positive light on your company – from press releases and PR campaigns to press conferences. You answer written and telephone media enquiries and give interviews for radio or television. Typically, you are seated close to management to quickly relay business-relevant news to the media or handle media enquiries swiftly and competently. As a creative all-rounder and networker with an interest in the media landscape, communication skills, and writing talent, you are the perfect fit for this role.
